Make Peace With Your Hair Dryer

Make Peace with your blow dryer So you’re a low maintenance beauty? Great! Many hair cuts look great air-dried and beach inspired wind-swept looks have been making waves for many seasons now. But are you 100% sure that you aren’t just a little bit afraid of your blow dryer? Yes, your hairstylist uses that hair dryer like a magic implement smoothing and styling to perfection. But they have years of experience, using a blow dryer with precision is in their muscle memory. Also, they are able to see and move all around your head, no contortion class can teach you to see the back of your own head! So while you may not get that mini-miracle known as a salon blowout at home, you can make peace with your hair dryer. Stop avoiding it and use these at-home tricks to easily upgrade your daily hair styling with less effort.

Spot blow dry. Bangs and pesky cowlicks can be tamed in seconds with a short blast from your hair dryer. Then just leave the hair that behaves itself to air dry. This only adds a minute or two to your routine but makes all the difference in your look.
Section. For long hair, use big clips to section hair. It prevents over-drying and allows you to focus more on certain areas. Your stylist can show you the best ways to section for your style and hair type.
Blow out products. These products offer benefits like protection from heat, light hold, and polishing. These products are big helpers, making your effort pay off and last.
Don’t over dry. Crispy looking hair has never been a good look (We’re still trying to forget crunchy 80’s perms!) and drying to over dry is damaging. Besides, nobody has time for that!
Shampoo at night? Tame the bedhead with a short blow dry. Use a little heat protectant product and be careful not to over-dry since your hair will be mostly dry. Just think of your dryer as another hot tool to shape your style. This won’t offer the most polished, precision style, but is a good short cut for rushed mornings.
Make your current blow out last. Skipping a shampoo as long as your hair type will let you makes a salon blow out worth the investment. Dry shampoos, hair powders and end refreshing products will help you revive a good blow out the next day. No dryer needed.
Clean your dryer. Hair dryer intakes suck in dust and the more dust that covers them makes the motors work too hard, get too hot and burn out. If you’ve invested in a nice dryer like your stylist uses, then your wallet insists you maintain and clean it.
Round Brush Much? Ask your stylist for tips on using a round brush on your own head. Its a feat to hold a brush and dryer while working on your own head. You may find it easier to work volume or shape into your own hair using other means such as products and other hot tools. A round brush blow dry is a beautiful thing, but don’t let this advanced skill intimidate you if you don’t get it right away. This one requires practice.

Most recently, our own salon manager, Danika, walked down the aisle styled in a formal up do by hair stylist Brandy Antunez. Extensions were added to Danika’s shoulder length platinum blonde hair to achieve this elegant look.

Nicole wanted a vintage style for her Elvis themed wedding. Her custom fascinator created by hair stylist Amber Dawn Close – the perfect finishing touch.

We’ve also had fun requests including a vintage Elvis inspired wedding this Spring. Hair stylist Amber Dawn Close created a custom fascinator to complement the bride’s vintage tea-length dress.

This Earth Day celebrate the beautiful Mother Earth by allowing less waste in your beauty routine.

Washing your hair less is a good idea: You’ve heard your hair stylist say it, but you may have been resistant. Not only does washing less protect your color and salon style longer, this choice saves water too. A little oily at the roots? Consider a dry shampoo product like Bumble and bumble’s pret-a-powder or Moroccanoil’s new Dry Shampoo. These products help make styling easier as well.
Recycle those empty hair product containers: Place your empty plastic bottles in your recycling pick-up to keep them out of the landfill. Empty steel aerosol cans can be recycled too.
